Stop Press - The May 2009 Massif Midi Challenge raises £25,000
Challenge Adventure Charities (CAC) raises money for other charities predominantly through annual cycling challenges that provide participants with a vehicle to raise significant amounts of money for worthy causes. Since 1990, it has raised over two million pounds for a wide variety of charities from Alzheimers and the NSPCC to local hospices and Scout groups. The main supported charities in 2009 are Cancer Research UK and MacMillan Cancer Care.
The Alpine Challenge 2009 (September 25th - 27th 2009)
June 2009 - The Alpine Challenge is now full with 60 teams and a waiting list.
The Alpine Challenge is to teams of four to cycle in relay over 500 miles in three days from Laon in northeastern France to Annecy in the French Alps raising a minimum of £1000 for charity. Teams will need to get to Laon, about two hours south of the Channel Tunnel, on the Thursday evening where B&B hotel accommodation will be provided. They will set off south first thing on the Friday cycling past champagne vineyards and rolling countryside into Chablis country and the first night's stop at Auxerre. On Saturday, they will head east passing through the village where the feature film of "Chocolate" was made, then riding on past the source of the Seine north of Dijon across lovely countryside before arriving at Besancon. On Sunday, teams will head into the Jura mountains past ski stations and stunning alpine scenery arriving at Lac Annecy with its historic and picturesque old quarter.
Teams will be made up of "extra"ordinary people rising to a physical challenge raising money for charities through personal and corporate sponsorship. All you need is the legs and stamina to ride your share of 500 miles and the commitment to raise £1000 for charity, half of which can be donated to a charity of the team's choice. A team entry fee of £1000 covers the cost of travel through the tunnel and all accommodation, breakfast and evening meals on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Teams will make their way to Laon on the Thursday evening and typically return to the UK on the Monday.
Whilst teams can donate half of what they raise to a charity of their own choice, the remainder will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.

Massif Midi Madness? (May 24th – 31st 2009)

The spring 2009 challenge was to individual riders to cycle 500 miles climbing over 12000 meters from Bordeaux to Chateauneuf du Pape over seven days raising a minimum of £250 for charity. It was a huge success with everyone enjoying the superb scenery and demanding route and it raised £25,000 for a range of charities.
Participants flew from Gatwick to Bordeaux on the Sunday morning meeting the Marshal’s van with their bikes. Over the next seven days, they rode through the Midi region of southern France, along the river Dordogne, past the premier French “site” of Rocamadour before crossing the southern Massif Central rounding Puy Mary before heading south east over more mountains, past lakes and through amazing gorges to the Avignon Popes’ summer palace at Chateauneuf du Pape.
