Challenge Adventure Charities (CAC) raises money for other charities predominantly through annual cycling challenges that provide participants with a vehicle to raise significant amounts of money for worthy causes. Since 1990, it has raised over two million pounds for a wide variety of charities from Cancer Research UK and the NSPCC to local hospices and Scout groups.
The Velo Vosges Challenge October 2008
The Challenge will take cyclists riding in relay in teams of four, 500 miles in 3 days from the North of France to Alsace in the East, near the border with Germany, going over the Vosges Mountains.Teams will leave the UK on Thursday 2nd October by Eurotunnel spending Thursday night in Arras making final preparations before the start early on Friday 3rd October.
The route will be on minor roads and on the first day will take cyclists through some of the First World War battle fields of France including parts of the River Somme to the Champagne vineyards of the magnificent Montagne de Reims and Epernay for an overnight stop.
Day 2 will again start with a ride through the Champagne vineyards and then across the flat Chalons plain to the delightful Lorraine region of France, finishing on the outskirts of Nancy for a well earned rest in the centre of this splendid city. We will leave Nancy on Sunday morning and soon be into the Vosges Mountains with spectacular scenery along winding roads, climbing through pine forests close to ski resorts. The countryside changesdramatically as teams descend to the Rhine valley with Hansel and Gretel – like fairytale villages set amongst the Alsace vineyards to the beautiful village of Riquewihr for the finish and final celebrations of our achievements together.
